Defending a Culture of Life

As a matter of my faith and moral conviction, I believe that life begins at conception and we should encourage a culture that values all life – from the unborn, to the young child abandoned by their parents, to the senior in a nursing home nearing their last days.

The recent statements by leadership at Planned Parenthood should disqualify the organization from receiving or administering any taxpayer money.  Their callous and heartless discussions of trafficking in human remains, and the cold and shameless indifference to ending a human life and harvesting organs and appendages from the unborn, truly shocks the conscience. That is why I introduced legislation that would retain full funding of critical non-abortion related women’s health services through community health centers and other providers, but will forever disqualify Planned Parenthood from receiving those funds. It is critically important to provide integral funding for non-abortion related women’s health services and have worked with the Appropriations Committee to provide robust funding for community health centers.

Additionally, I have supported legislation to extend equal protection under the 14th Amendment to every person, born and preborn, ensuring life is protected from conception to death. I am also a cosponsor of bills that limit abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, that require parental consent for minors seeking abortions at any stage of pregnancy, and that permanently prohibit taxpayer funding from supporting elective abortions or abortion services. Further, I am a cosponsor of legislation to protect rights of conscience for health care providers who refuse to perform an abortion.
